Purple Industries specializes in marine LED lighting including RGB color changing products. Living and working in the extreme ocean and marine environments of Western Australia we know what a good light needs to be. We have strenuously applied that knowledge to create a range of LED lights to function in these harsh conditions, with a range of specialist products designed to create an amazing light show for your boat or marina. With careful use of the RGB control system, our RGB LED lights create that one of a kind night show your boat or marine environment.
If you’re a boat or Yacht owner, you know that having proper lighting is important. Not just emergency lighting, but lighting for certain times of the day or night. These days even aesthetic lighting is important. If you spent a good amount on the boat or yacht, few more dollars on lighting will not hurt. Thanks to the energy savings, size and efficiency of LED’s, there are many new choices in LED lights for marine use for just about any size or type of boat.
Questions are bound to arise;
What should I buy?
Why should I buy?
My friend bought LEDs for his boat and they all died in the first month, are they all like that?
Those are all legitimate questions that our customers have asked. This article should clear the air on the subject.
At first, it would appear to us that LEDs were done with a boat in mind. That is not the whole truth. They have a great life expectancy, don’t mind vibrations, give off much less heat than their incandescent or halogen counterparts and use a lot less energy – about a tenth of the wattage of a halogen – for a similar output.
What Are LED Marine Functions?
There is certainly an almost unlimited quantity of purposes for LED lights, several of which have already been identified and others that are presently being checked out. They light up VHF radios, chart plotters, and stereos and they nowadays inform you when you have a voicemail on your smart phone. You can discover LED lights utilised for submerged lighting on expensive sport fishermen and mega yachts. But as far as both interior and exterior lighting goes, LEDs have never really been popular. But this will change soon with our products.
Some boat owners use LED options for purely aesthetic reasons. For example, you may have seen boats that are lit up in different colors at night. Some boats even have LED light strips around the outside of the boat, but underneath the water, giving the water that surrounds them a glowing effect.
The reality though is that LEDs, despite their higher initial costs, is far more cost efficient than traditional light sources. When we consider, for instance the high failure rate of lighting equipment used in marine environments and the acutely felt costs in electrical power generation, LEDs offer savings that far outweigh their initial expense. Boat owners who switch all of their incandescent lighting over to LEDs see an up to 80% reduction in the on-board electrical use of lighting, and the costs of maintaining lighting systems drops significantly as well.
LEDs operate up to 90% more efficiently than incandescent bulbs and can last for over ten years, meaning many boaters will never change another light bulb for as long as they own the boat. Everything from marine spreader lights to interior cabin lighting can be easily replaced with LEDs, and the huge drop in energy consumption that results mean less fuel is needed to run generators and engines. Additionally, alternative energy sources popular with boaters such as wind and solar generators become far more effective when combined with LED lighting, further reducing the consumption of expensive fuel.
